    ecnc The first Steering Committee’s Meeting of the Project “Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for Local Sustainable Development in the Western Balkans” was held on 18 May 2009 in Belgrade, Serbia. The project will be implemented by European Center for Nature Conservation in cooperation with Regional Environmental Center and its offices in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo. NALAS was represented at this meeting by Ms Sanja Zivkovic.

  • Urban Planning Task Force meeting in Tirana, 7 May 2009 07.05.2009

    tfuptirana The NALAS Task Force on Urban Planning met in Tirana on 7 May 2009. The meeting took place between two national workshops of the Urban Integration of Informal Settlements project - one in the Republic of Srpska on 27, 28 April and a second one in Albania on 8 May. During the meeting, experts delivered updates on the recent development in the urbanization sector in South East Europe, concluding that most of the counties are still facing serious challenges in this area. This is especially the case as the economy shrinks and municipalities are now even less able to build new social and physical infrastructure to serve their growing communities. Central governments are not helping either, as in some cases they are even disrupting municipal efforts, by using “legal shortcuts” to bypass regular municipal planning processes, or by not giving state land to the municipalities. The meeting resulted with new potential project ideas for activities of this task force in 2010.

  • First UNECE Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Housing, 21-22 April 2009 in Sofia 21.04.2009

    logo_housing The First Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Housing was organized to review and discuss challenges and opportunities for the ECE region in order to identify necessary policy measures, as well as to provide UNECE member States with policy guidance and suggestions on how to increase energy efficiency in the housing sector. The Workshop reviewed the economic, social and environmental impacts of energy efficiency in housing, considered current policies, solutions and barriers to effective policies, and discussed priorities that need to be addressed by international and national governments. NALAS was represented at this workshop by Mr Petar Gvero, member of the NALAS Task Force on Energy Efficiency.

  • Energy Efficiency Measures in South-East European Municipalities and The Role of National Associations and NALAS 24.03.2009

    eemeasures A network-wide assessment of the needs and potentials for joint activities of the member associations promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy at the local level has been compiled within the framework of a NALAS study. A total of 13 member associations from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Turkey participated in the study group, which was working under the auspices of the NALAS Task Force on Energy Efficiency.   • Energy Efficiency Task Force Meeting in Budva, 18-21 March 2009 18.03.2009

    tfeebudva In March 2009, a very important conference took place in Budva, which gathered over 300 participants from the region to discuss energy. The "Regional Energy Security and Energy Efficiency" conference was organized by the Ministry for Economic Development of Montenegro and the German Development Cooperation - GTZ and gathered governmental representatives, various energy agencies, NGOs and companies to talk about the energy challenges in the region. This gathering of the Task Force was also used to continue the development of the Energy Efficiency project idea, now with concrete actions and partners.

  • Energy Community Investment Conference on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy 18.03.2009

    Energy Community Investment Conference on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy took place in Vienna on the 18th of March. The event was organized by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The objective of the Conference was to identify ways forward in terms of financing energy efficiency and renewable projects using innovative instruments, while drawing upon the experience of the European Union. Over 150 participants from 30 countries were represented at the forum.

    Energy Community Investment Conference on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy took place in Vienna on the 18th of March. The event was organized by the Energy Community Secretariat in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Over 150 participants from 30 countries were represented at the forum. NALAS presented to the conference the concept and first interim results of the currently ongoing multi-national cooperation study on “EE and RE measures in South-East Europe and the strategic role of NALAS and its member associations”.
