Presidents and executives of NALAS Member Associations met in Dubrovnik on 11-13 July and discussed impacts of the global economic crisis on the local governments in South East Europe. The current situation was assessed, good and bad practices were collected and recommendations were developed from the local governments and local government associations in South East Europe. In addition, the draft methodology for assessing direct and indirect impacts of the crisis on local budgets was discussed and it will soon be offered to local government associations in order to help them successfully negotiate with central governments. Ms. Antonella Cagnolati – Director of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Mr. Jeremy Smith – CEMR Secretary General and Mr. Ken Davey – OSI/LGI were some of the guest speakers at the event.
The event was hosted by the new NALAS member, Croatian Association of Municipalities. The event resulted with a declaration of the NALAS Local Government Associations. The declaration is available for download below.
