The NALAS Task Force on Energy Efficiency addresses the increasing issues with energy in South East Europe. As energy efficiency is an interdisciplinary field, this task brings together energy experts, municipal energy managers, mayors and other professionals who contribute together in mitigating the energy problems by proposing changes in the legislation, collecting best practices, encouraging better use of the available energy and employing renewable sources of energy.

  • Energy Efficiency Task Force Meeting in Prishtina, 15-16 February 2008 16.02.2012

    cimg4653 The Task Force on Energy Efficiency is the newest NALAS expert group. Its first meeting was held in Prishtina between 15 and 16 February 2008. The Association of Kosovo Municipalities is the host of this task force. Being a rapidly increasing issue in the region, this group will try to mitigate the energy problems by proposing changes in the legislation, collecting best practices, encouraging better use of the available energy and ;employing renewable sources of energy.

  • Climate Change and Energy package 23.01.2012

    On 23rd January 2008, the European Commission presented the Climate Change and Energy package. It is based on the decisions taken by the Heads of States during the European Council of March 2007. By 2020, the European Union should reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 20%, increase its energy efficiency by 20%, achieve 20% of renewables in overall EU energy consumption including 10% of total vehicle fuel consumption covered by bio-fuels.

  • Western Balkan municipalities show that biodiversity-led planning can deliver true sustainable development 14.10.2011

    Friday 14 October 2011 saw the successful closing of the two-day international conference ‘Biodiversity goes local’, held in Budva, Montenegro. The aim of the conference was to further enhance local biodiversity actions in Southeastern Europe, with a focus on the Western Balkan region. The conference brought together almost 100 participants from local communities of countries in the Dinaric Arc region, governments, international governmental and non-governmental organizations, and various experts, who engaged in lively discussions and exchange of views, experience and expertise. NALAS was represented at this conference by Ms Sanja Zivkovic

  • Energy Cities RendezVous 06.04.2011

    energycitiesdoittogether On 6 - 8 April 2011 Energy Cities gathered political decision-makers, technical representatives, companies and academics for its Annual Rendezvous 2011. Energy Cities and the hosting City of Zagreb want to encourage European local authorities to “Do It Yourself…together”: each city has its own energy challenges and skills, but only by teaming up with others it will be well prepared for an unpredictable 21st Century.

  • Energy Cities' opinion about the Energy Efficiency plan 2011 08.03.2011

    energy_efficiency_plan_2020-5da89 Energy Cities, the European Association of "local authorities inventing their energy future", published today its opinion about the Energy Efficiency plan 2011, released by the European Commission on 8 March 2011. According to Energy cities, after the Fukushima nuclear accident and the new increase of oil energy prices, time for postponing urgent decisions is definitively over. It’s really time to go towards a decentralised, democratic, responsible energy system that citizens can understand. Such a system calls for greater involvement of local authorities in energy policy making and implementation so as to give a more significant place to decentralised policies based on energy efficiency, energy savings and the use of local renewable energy and heat recovery.

  • Energy Efficiency Task Force Meeting in Tirana, 23-24 November 2010 23.11.2010

    NALAS Task Force on Energy Efficiency met in Tirana, Albania, on the 23-24th of November 2010. The meeting was devoted to the TF EE strategic planning based on the sum-ups of the Survey “Energy Efficiency Measures in South-East European Municipalities and the Role of National Associations and NALAS”. It gathered in total 14 participants. The main topics for discussions of the meeting were content and format of the Report, the project follow on steps, and TF EE evaluation process.

  • Covenant of Mayors in the Western Balkans 21.09.2010

    A very supportive letter was received by the Director General of the European Commission's DG Enlargement Michael Leigh supporting the proposed extension of the Covenant of Mayors to the Western Balkans. Series of meetings were held with the European Commission units in Brussels as actions to promote further the extension. Representatives of DG Energy, DG Enlargement, the Local Adminstration Facility Program of TAIEX were visited to support the initiative and to lobby for opening of Covenant of Mayors Office (CoMO) in the Western Balkans. With the support of Energy Cities, NALAS will become Supporting Sructure for the Covenant, as a step towards establishing of CoMO in SEE with IPA financial support.

  • The First International Forum on Energy Management at Local Level 16.09.2010

    The Forum was organized by the Central European Development Forum (CEDEF). The organizer has launched several programs in energy efficiency area, with intention to work on public awareness of electrical energy consumption rationalization and its importance for the modern society. The event took place in Nis, Serbia, on the 16-17th September 2010. NALAS presented Study: EE Measures in SEE Municipalities and the Role of National Associations, with emphasis on the outcome – the Sofia Covenant of Mayors in Western Balkans Declaration and informed about upcoming NEXPO’11. Possibilities for further cooperation and dissemination activities were discussed with CEDEF.

  • Energy Efficiency Task Force Meeting in Skopje, 12-13 May 2011 12.05.2010

    NALAS Task Force on Energy Efficiency met in Skopje, Macedonia, on the 12-13th May 2011. The meeting was devoted to the Task Force on Energy Efficiency forthcoming projects and activities in regards with Supporting Structures for the Covenant of Mayors (CoM), and included review and update of the Task Force’s Action Plan in view of synergy and better collaboration with NALAS Knowledge Managers (KM) appointed at the LGAs. It gathered in total 29 participants, including a number of the members of the KM Group. The main topics for discussions of the meeting were the main activities of the CoM Supporters, the upcoming UNDP project Think Globally Develop Locally, and the TF EE and KM follow on steps.

  • Energy Efficiency Task Force Meeting in Budva, 27 April 2010 27.04.2010

    The TF EE members gathered in Budva on 27th April 2010. At this meeting, the Final Draft of the Report on the Survey “Energy Efficiency Measures in South-East European Municipalities and the Role of National Associations and NALAS” was discussed. Final amendments to the document were agreed. The format and content of the Report is made comparable, indicative and concrete. An Executive Summary and a full volume report are to be disseminated to NALAS members, their member municipalities and other institutions after the conclusion of the project on the 20th May 2010. Several project ideas were generated with a view to make impact in EE sector in regards with the Survey’s findings.
