The Final Event of the project “Regional Cooperation for Better Social Inclusion at Local Level”  was held on 10–11 June 2025 in Durrës, Albania, gathering over 80 representatives from patner local governments, Local Government Associations, and members ofthe NALAS regional Working Groupp on Social Inclusion and Migration  to celebrate achievements and shape the future of inclusive local development in South-East Europe.

Implemented across 14 partner municipalities, the  project supported the design and delivery of 23 innovative, community-based initiatives—ranging from day-care services for children with disabilities to psychosocial, educational, and rehabilitation programs for adults and elderly women. These locally tailored solutions directly touched the lives of over 800 people, proving the power of local action in fostering social inclusion.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Dubravko Bilic, President of NALAS, highlighted the project’s lasting impact:

“In 14 local governments, we saw tangible outcomes—social and gender-sensitive services were launched or improved, often for the first time. These efforts reached the most vulnerable, turning inclusion from a concept into a community reality.”

Mr. Bilic also emphasised how the project has enhanced NALAS’ advocacy role, strengthened municipal capacities, and enriched its e-Academy and Knowledge System—building a strong foundation for inclusive local governance.

The two-day event featured inspiring examples of local dedication, empathy, and resilience, demonstrating how regional cooperation can effectively support just and inclusive societies.

The final event was also an opportunity to engage in structured sessions for strategic reflection, and to discuss good practices, potentials for growth, and shared tools and approaches that can be adapted and scaled. These insights are helping shape the path forward for more inclusive, community-responsive services.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit the Community-Based Services Center for Children with Disabilities and the Empowering Community Center in Durrës. These visits offered a firsthand look at how integrated, locally driven services are making a tangible impact—supporting individuals and families, and fostering social inclusion.

NALAS expresses sincere appreciation to GIZ and BMZ for their long-standing support and shared vision of empowering municipalities to ensure that no one is left behind.
