The NALAS Group of Gender Focal Points presents the Booklet of Human-Interest Stories on Gender-Responsive Budgeting (GRB), showcasing best practices from across South-East Europe.

Through 16 compelling stories, the booklet demonstrates how local governments across the region are translating gender equality commitments into tangible, everyday change. These stories highlight the human dimension of GRB—showing how budgetary decisions, guided by inclusivity and equity, can reshape communities and improve lives. Together, they affirm a simple yet powerful message: when budgets respond to people, they build communities where everyone belongs and thrives.

The booklet aims to inspire local officials, practitioners, and policymakers to learn from proven approaches, replicate successful models, and develop innovative solutions that advance gender equality.

The publication covers a wide range of areas, including:

  • Women’s Economic Empowerment and Employment
  • Inclusive Rural Growth
  • Care Economy, Health, and Social Protection
  • Culture, Sport, and Inclusion
  • Education, Awareness, and GBV Prevention
  • GBV Protection and Response Systems
  • Women and Peacebuilding
  • Data, Governance, and GRB Mainstreaming
