The CITYMOVE project, co-financed by the EU under the Interreg IPA Adrion program, was officially launched with a three-day event from 5 to 7 November 2024, in Gubbio, Italy. This gathering brought together all partners from eight countries to discuss innovative solutions for improving urban mobility and share insights on the project’s implementation with the broader public. The event was attended by the mayors of Mostar, Biograd na Moru, Sveti Nikole, Mat and Gubbio, as well the project partners’ staff.

NALAS is an associate partner of CITYMOVE Project, continuously supporting its successful implementation, as this was one of the successful projects developed within the EU Projects City Network in the Western Balkans, supported by NALAS and GIZ. During the kick-off meeting, NALAS’ Project Officer Darko Mrvaljevic provided capacity development sessions for the project partners in project reporting and using the PRAG procurement procedures.

CITYMOVE, led by the City of Bar, started on 1 September and will be implemented during 30 months. With a budget of €1,584,047.96, it aims to contribute to the reduction of car dependency through infrastructure improvement and promotion of eco-mobility. Since more than 40% of the project budget is dedicated to investing in infrastructure through the acquisition of valuable equipment across the eight economies, significant attention was focused on investment planning: a sensor system for available parking spaces in the centre of Bar, and two bicycle stations; smart parking, marking paths for cyclists and pedestrians, and a smart bus station in Mostar; smart parking in Biograd na Moru and Mat; bicycles and two stations in Novi Pazar; solar bus stops and scooter stations in Sveti Nikole; equipping urban and rural bicycle paths with chargers and tools in Gubbio; and equipping two bicycle locations in Kantanos, Crete.

In addition to valuable infrastructural equipment, the project will develop an application for cycling and walking paths, local urban mobility plans, and a transnational urban mobility plan with a catalogue of practical solutions in this field. Urban mobility days will be organised at three locations, and a car-free day along with cycling races will take place at eight locations, where participants will have the opportunity to receive bicycles.
